San Francisco Symphony to open 2013-14 season with week of all-American music

This fall Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony celebrate the opening of the Orchestra’s 102nd season with a week of concerts featuring all-American music, beginning with the Opening Night Gala on Tuesday, September 3 at 8pm, featuring singer and actress Audra McDonald in works from the American Songbook, as well as the SFS performing Antheil’s Jazz Symphony and Gershwin’s An American in Paris.

On Thursday, September 5, MTT conducts the 35th annual All-San Francisco Concert, a community event which celebrates the work of more than 100 social service and non-profit organizations that serve San Francisco and the Bay Area. The program includes Jazz Symphony and An American in Paris, as well as Barber’s Violin Concerto with guest violinist James Ehnes. MTT also leads James Ehnes and the SFS in the all-American program on Friday, September 6 and Saturday, September 7.
