Oct 3, 2013

Michael Tilson Thomas returns to Miami Beach to open the New World Symphony’s 2013-14 season this weekend in concerts October 5 and 6 with Yuja Wang. The Chinese pianist performs Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F in a program that also sees MTT leading the orchestra in Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite.

The inaugural concerts of the New World Symphony, America’s Orchestral Academy, feature the world premiere of a video work by artist and filmmaker Tal Rosner made to accompany Benjamin Britten’s Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes. The video was co-commissioned – and will later be performed – by the San Francisco Symphony, The Philadelphia Orchestra, and the LA Philharmonic.  You can also celebrate the New World Symphony’s opening weekend by attending the WALLCAST™ concert on October 5outside in the Miami Beach SoundScape.

Later this month on October 19, MTT will lead the New World Symphony in Chicago, where they present a program comprising Berio’s Violin Duets, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella, and Niccolò Castiglioni’s Inverno in-ver, which will include the world premiere of a real-time visual installation created by Netia Jones – a collaborative effort between Ms. Jones and MTT, co-commissioned by the New World Symphony and Chicago’s Harris Theater. MTT and the NWS will also present this program in Miami Beach on October 17.
