This Spring, co-Founder and Artistic Director Michael Tilson Thomas makes his return to the New World Symphony for new works, the close of the 2015/16 academic season and more.

MTT leads the fellows of the New World Symphony on April 23 & 24 for John Cage’s The Seasons and – with mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke and tenor Simon O’Neill – Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde.

On April 30, MTT premieres his new composition Four Preludes on Playthings of the Wind with soprano Measha Brueggergosman and vocalists Mikaela Bennett and Kara Sainz in a New Works concert. The event also spotlights Timo Andres’s Tides and Currents, with the composer at the keyboard, plus Lauren Yee and Amy Beth Kirsten’s Stereo | Blind with actors Diana Oh and Dawn McGee.

MTT conducts the New World Symphony’s 2015/16 academic season finale performances on May 7 & 8. Violist Roberto Diaz is the soloist in Berlioz’s Harold in Italy in a program also highlighting Sibelius’s Symphonies No. 6 & No. 7.
