London Symphony Orchestra celebrates Principal Guest Conductor Michael Tilson Thomas’s 70th birthday with duo of concerts

The London Symphony Orchestra presents two concerts at the Barbican Centre celebrating Principal Guest Conductor Michael Tilson Thomas’s 70th birthday. On March 12, MTT conducts a gala performance that includes Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, Gershwin’s Concerto in F–featuring pianist Yuja Wang–and Hidden Variables, an LSO commission by composer Colin Matthews. Then on March 15, Yuja Wang returns to guest with the orchestra in Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1 on a program that also comprises Britten’s Four Sea Interludes and Sibelius’s Symphony No. 2.

Following the London concerts, MTT, the LSO, and Yuja Wang embark on a tour of the United States, where they appear in New York City and throughout the American West Coast.
