Michael Tilson Thomas at Tanglewood

This summer, Michael Tilson Thomas returns to Tanglewood for concerts on July 25 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and July 27 with the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra. For his July 25 BSO performance, MTT leads the orchestra in Mahler’s Fifth Symphony and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 14, K.449, with soloist Emanuel Ax. The concert takes place in the Koussevitzky Music Shed.

Two days later, the American conductor leads the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra at Seiji Ozawa Hall in a program that comprises Schuller’s Trumpet Fanfare, Copland’s Orchestral Variations, Lukas Foss’s Quintets for orchestra (with video), and Bernstein’s Prelude, Fugue, and Riffs. The program culminates in Ives’s New England Holidays, featuring TMC conducting fellows, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Chorus, and conductor Ann Howard Jones.
