Michael Tilson Thomas & San Francisco Symphony embark on 2015 European festivals tour

Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony embark on a tour of the major European festivals this summer, giving 13 concerts in nine cities from August 27 to September 14.

The tour includes performances at the BBC Proms, the Edinburgh International Festival, the Lucerne Festival, the George Enescu Festival, the Berlin Festival, and the Rheingau Festival. The Orchestra will also visit Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and Luxembourg’s Philharmonie and will have its debut at the new Paris Philharmonie. Pianists Yuja Wang and Jeremy Denk, as well as the St. Lawrence String Quartet, join the SFS throughout the tour.

While on tour, MTT will lead the Orchestra in Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 and Symphony No. 3, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, Schoenberg’s Theme and Variations, Ives’ Decoration Day, Enescu’s La Voix de la nature, John Adams’s Absolute Jest, Henry Cowell’s Piano Concerto with Jeremy Denk, and Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with Yuja Wang.
