New World Symphony and MTT kick off their 25th season on October 15

On October 15 Michael Tilson Thomas returns to Miami to helm the orchestra he helped create, leading the New World Symphony in its “Opening Fanfare” program. This concert also marks the beginning of the orchestra’s first full season in its new home, the Frank Gehry designed, state of the art New World Center. Repertory for the evening includes the overture to Smetana’s opera The Bartered Bride, Janáček’sSinfonetta, Schumann’s Piano Concerto with soloist Javier Perianes, and the world premiere of James Lee III’s Sukkot Through Orion’s Nebula. MTT and the New World Symphony repeat this program the following evening.

MTT and the New World Symphony continue the 2011/12 season with an all-Beethoven program at the New World Center on October 22. MTT’s final concerts of the fall with the New World Symphony take place on October 28 and 29 at the New World Center and the Adrienne Arsht Center, respectively. The program on the 28 consists of R. Strauss’ Till Eulenspiegel and Brahms’ First Symphony, while the following evening reprises this repertory and adds Wagner’s Wiesendonk Lieder, sung by the noted dramatic soprano Christine Brewer.
