Following a gala performance on September 14, Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas launches the San Francisco Symphony’s subscription concerts with the music of Bernstein, Bartók, and more.
From September 22 to 24, MTT conducts the SFS in an all-Bernstein program, marking the start of a season-long celebration of the composer/conductor’s centenary. The concert spotlights performances by mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, bass-baritone Ryan McKinney, clarinetist Carey Bell, and the San Francisco Symphony Chorus. MTT leads Bernstein’s Prelude, Fugue, and Riffs; Chichester Psalms; Arias and Barcarolles; and Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.
On September 28 and 30 and October 1, MTT takes the stage with pianist Jeremy Denk and the SFS for Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Also on the program is Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique.
