MTT and the San Francisco Symphony and Chorus will be the first orchestra to perform Leonard Bernstein’s complete music for the musical  West Side Story  live in concert in five performances  June 27-30 and July 2  at Davies Symphony Hall. MTT leads a cast that sees Cheyenne Jackson singing the role of Tony, Alexandra Silber as Maria, Jessica Vosk as Anita, Kevin Vortmann as Riff, and Justin Keyes as Action.

Next month Michael Tilson Thomas appears at the Hollywood Bowl , leading the Los Angeles Philharmonic in two performances as part of its opening week. MTT kicks off the Bowl’s classical season on July 9 when he conducts Mahler’s Second Symphony, “Resurrection,” with the LA Phil, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and soloists Kiera Duffy and Sasha Cooke. MTT leads the San Francisco Symphony in two concert programs dedicated to Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, celebrating the 100th anniversary of its performance this year. Both programs pair Stravinsky’s ballet with lesser known music that reflects the work’s creative roots and legacy. MTT first worked with Stravinsky as a student in Southern California.

This Wednesday, Michael Tilson Thomas returns to the podium of the London Symphony Orchestra as the ensemble’s Principal Guest Conductor for concerts in Madrid ( June 5 ) and at London’sBarbican Centre ( June 9, 11, 12 ). In the Spanish capital, MTT and the LSO present a program comprising Aaron Copland’s Quiet City, Benjamin Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, and Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony.
