Michael Tilson Thomas launches 2012 with the San Francisco Symphony in performances of Liszt’sPrometheus, Tchaikovsky’s First Symphony, and Ligeti’s Violin Concerto – first at the Mondavi Center at UC Davis on January 5 and then at Davies Center on January 6, 7 and 8.

The soloist for Ligeti’s virtuosic concerto is the German violinist Christian Tetzlaff. MTT then leads the SFS in a second program at Davies Symphony Hall on January 12, 13 and 14, conducting the SFS in Janácek’s Sinfonietta and Debussy’s musical drama Le martyre de Saint Sébastien.
