November for MTT begins with Schubert in San Francisco

MTT returns to San Francisco this month, resuming his 17th season as Music Director of the San Francisco Symphony after kicking off the 2011-12 season of the New World Symphony.

Tilson Thomas conducts the first of three weekends of concerts from November 11 to 13, presenting a program that features three works by Schubert: the composer’s Overture to Alfonso und Estrella, the famous Piano Quintent in A major “Trout,” and the Mahler arrangement of Schubert’s String Quartet in D minor, “Death and the Maiden.”  Then, from November 17 to 20, MTT leads the San Francisco Symphony in Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem.  The last week of concerts, taking place November 23 to 26, MTT and the SFS perform the Prelude to Act III of Wagner’s Lohengrin and the Schoenberg arrangement of Brahms’s First Piano Quartet. In addition, they are joined by violin virtuoso Gil Shaham for Brahms’s Violin Concerto in D major.
